OSUN TEACHERS SHIFT 2.0: OVER 300 TEACHERS EQUIPPED TO DRIVE IMPACT IN TECHNICAL EDUCATION

OSUN Teachers’-Shift 2.0 was organised by the Osun State Board of Technical and Vocational Education (OSSBTVE) in collaboration with IHS Towers, through the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical and Vocational Education, Arc. Dapo Ademola-Adesina, under the theme: “Shift to Impact.”

Commencing on August 3, 2026, the training brought together education stakeholders and teachers from technical colleges across the state in what was conceived as more than a conventional training exercise. Rather, it represented a deliberate effort to bridge the gap between pedagogical knowledge and classroom application, ensuring that teachers are not merely custodians of knowledge but catalysts for innovation, employability and sustainable development.

At the opening ceremony, the Commissioner for Education was ably represented by the Special Adviser on School Monitoring, Hon. Akin Ajetumobi, who joined other dignitaries and education stakeholders in setting the tone for a programme designed to reshape the trajectory of technical education in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, also represented by Mrs. O. A. Adeoye, addressed participants on “Transformation, Innovation and Empowerment,” urging teachers to embrace new ideas, contemporary approaches and transformative practices capable of improving the quality and relevance of public education.

Across Days 2 to 6, the teachers were immersed in intensive, practical and interactive training session covering leadership, innovation, technology, modern teaching approaches, professional development and improved learning strategies.

The sessions provided a fertile ground for knowledge exchange, with participants sharing experiences, interrogating some of the challenges confronting technical education and brainstorming practical solutions that could be deployed within their respective schools.

The training, therefore, went beyond the proverbial chalk-and-talk approach. It sought to equip teachers with the intellectual and practical wherewithal to respond to the changing demands of a technology-driven educational landscape.

IHS TOWERS STRENGTHENS TRAINING WITH WELFARE SUPPORT

Beyond the intellectual investment, IHS Towers demonstrated that teacher development and teacher welfare can go hand in hand by providing substantial support for the participating teachers throughout the seven-day programme.

Each participant received a branded training bag, umbrella, learning materials and refreshments, alongside a ₦5,000 daily transportation allowance.

The intervention was further complemented with special welfare packages, including bags of rice, beans and bottles of cooking oil which underscored the commitment of the organisation to the wellbeing of the teachers who form the backbone of the education system.

The gesture was widely regarded as a practical demonstration that when stakeholders put their shoulders to the wheel, capacity development can become both impactful and humane.

FROM TRAINING TO IMPACT

On Day 7, participants reflected on the knowledge and competencies acquired throughout the programme and made a commitment to translate the lessons learned into concrete interventions within their schools.

The central philosophy of Teachers’-Shift 2.0 was encapsulated in its theme “Shift to Impact.” The programme was designed to move teachers from knowledge acquisition to knowledge application, from innovation to implementation and ultimately, from training to measurable impact.

Appreciating the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, on the significance of the initiative, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical and Vocational Education, Arc. Dapo Ademola-Adesina, reiterated the importance of continuous professional development and strategic partnerships in repositioning technical and vocational education in Osun State.

The successful completion of the programme also provided an opportunity for the OSSBTVE and the Office of the Special Adviser to express profound appreciation to the Director of Sustainability, IHS Towers Mrs. Titilope Oguntuga, for her exceptional support and commitment to the initiative.

The organisers equally commended members of the IHS Towers team for their professionalism, dedication and contribution to the successful execution of the programme.

A NEW CHAPTER FOR TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION

With the conclusion of Osun Teachers’-Shift 2.0, the more than 300 beneficiaries are expected to return to their respective schools carrying not just certificates or training materials, but a renewed responsibility to teach differently, innovate boldly and create tangible outcomes for their students.

The initiative further reinforces the vision of Arc. Dapo Ademola-Adesina towards repositioning technical and vocational education in Osun State through continuous teacher development, strategic partnerships and innovative interventions by the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration.

As the saying goes, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. For Osun technical and vocational education sector, Teachers’-Shift 2.0 training is a consequential step from shift to impact, from ideas to action and from training to transformation.
