Osun Progressives Elites Call for Unity: Avoiding a Crisis is Paramount

Reports making the rounds that some leaders of the Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) at a meeting in the house of Baba Bisi Akande in Ila-Orangun are planning to resist the resumption of duly elected local government Chairmen in their office tomorrow through the deployment of security agencies and political thugs should worry every lovers of democracy. If true, such a move would amount to a dangerous attempt to plunge Osun State to an avoidable crisis.
The people of Osun have had enough of political tension and unnecessary confrontations. What they desired today is peace, development and good governance. The administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke has been concentrating on delivering democratic dividends through infrastructural development, worker’s welfare and people-oriented policies. Any action capable of disrupting the peace and stability of the state should be condemned by all well-meaning citizens.
The APC leadership in Osun must be reminded that when they had the opportunity to govern the state, many residents were dissatisfied with their performance. The electorate spoke clearly through the ballot box and entrusted the affairs of the state to a new administration.
Democracy demands respect for the will of the people, not desperate attempts to create confusion and instability.

The local government system remains the closet tier of government to the people, preventing elected officials from performing their constitutional duties is not only undemocratic but also a direct attack on grassroots development, community across Osun deserve functional local governments capable of delivering essential services and addresing local needs.
Furthermore, any attempt to obstruct the smooth operation of local governments would amount to a betrayal of the efforts being made by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthen local government autonomy and ensure that governance reaches the grassroots. Those seeking to undermine local government administration are working against the spirit of democratic governance and the aspirations of the Nigeria people.
We at the Osun Progressives Elite, therefore call on former Governor Gboyega Oyetola and the entire APC leadership in Osun to abandon any plan capable of causing unrest. Politics should never be allowed to override the collective interest of the people. Rather than creating obstacles, the opposition should join hands with Governor Ademola Adeleke in advancing the development of Osun State.
The peace of Osun must be preserved , the progress currently being recorded must not be derailed. Political actors must act with restraint, respect democratic institutions and place the welfare of the people above partisan considerations. Osun deserves cooperation, not conflict, development, not division.
