Osun Govt Declares Crackdown on Flood Risks Following Adeleke’s New Directives

Governor Ademola Adeleke has issued a comprehensive directive on flood risk management and emergency response across Osun state to strengthen the state’s preparedness, response and long-term resilience to flooding.
The directive runs as follows;
The Ministries of Environment, Works, Water Resources, Lands and Physical Planning, Health, Agriculture, Local Government Affairs, OWMA and OSEMA shall immediately undertake a coordinated assessment of all currently affected communities.
The affected Local Governments shall submit verified flood incident reports, including locations, households affected, infrastructure damage and immediate needs.

The Ministry of Works shall immediately inspect all reported damaged bridges, culverts and roads and implement appropriate emergency safety measures.
The Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA) shall coordinate emergency assistance and establish a verified register of affected households.
The Ministry of Environment and OWMA shall undertake emergency clearance of critical waterways, drainage channels and culvert entrances.
The Office of the Director-General and Special Envoy on Climate Change shall coordinate the development of a consolidated climate-risk and flood incident intelligence report.
A Flood Infrastructure Performance Audit covering major interventions undertaken from 2020 to date shall be commenced.
The State shall commence development of an Osun State Flood and Stormwater Master Plan based on catchment-level hydrological and hydraulic assessment.
The State shall establish OSUN FLOOD WATCH as an integrated early-warning and community reporting platform.
The Ministry of Works shall strengthen enforcement against development that obstructs waterways, drainage corridors and floodways.
The State shall develop a Bridge and Culvert Hydraulic Safety Register and classify critical crossings according to structural and hydraulic risk.
All MDAs shall submit their initial implementation reports within fourteen days of this directive.
The governor directed further that a consolidated progress report shall be submitted monthly during the remainder of the rainy season
“The objective of this directive is not merely to respond to the present flood events but to establish a permanent, data-driven and climate-resilient flood-management system for Osun State”, the governor was quoted as affirming.
