No Path to Sustainable Development Is More Reliable Than Re-Electing Governor Adeleke for Second Term

The truth evident across Osun today is that Governor Ademola Adeleke remains the most popular candidate in the race. That reality suggests that any political party truly confident in its popularity should not be searching for shortcuts to power.

To govern the people with a genuine sense of leadership, no one should expect it to be a gift handed to anyone behind closed doors, but rather a trust given by the people through their votes, in reference to the antecedent of such a leader. It is also important to note that any serious candidate and political party must be willing to face the people, discuss their ideas, defend their records, and win people’s hearts and support through persuasive and transparent elections, not by crooked means or reliance on higher authority.

The ballot box was created to settle political contests, not technical maneuvers designed to limit the choices available to voters. Throughout history, reputable leaders fought hard to convince the public before occupying positions of authority; they campaigned from community to community, listened to concerns, answered questions, and subjected themselves to the judgment of the electorate. That process is the very foundation of representative government.

It is therefore considered shameful, manipulative, and cowardly whenever political actors and their supporters appear more excited about reducing the options before voters than about winning the confidence of those voters. The strength of a democratic system is not measured by how many opponents are removed from the race but by how freely citizens are allowed to choose among competing visions and candidates.

In Osun, voters deserve respect. That respect begins with allowing citizens to examine all candidates, compare ideas and make their own decisions at the polls. The people’s choice should never be feared but welcomed and allowed to thrive. As citizens, we should not only reject poor leadership; we should also be wary of any political party that appears comfortable with preventing voters from exercising a full and free choice, such is zombie-like in nature, and the interpretation of such is that they will not be a listening government if given the chance to govern us, but rather they’ll rule by force and inflict injury with fullness of their demonstrated wickedness.

For Osun to thrive and grow stronger, the election must be open, fair and decided by the electorate. No political party that attempts to seek victory through the back door should be taken seriously.

Sustainable development is not built on political shortcuts or disruption of progress for partisan convenience. It is built on continuity, stability and the consistent implementation of policies that improve the lives of the people. Where a government has initiated reforms, invested in infrastructure, strengthened public services and earned the confidence of the people, the most reliable path to lasting development is to consolidate those gains through continuity of leadership rather than interrupt them for political expediency.

Governor Ademola Adeleke has walked the road to leadership through the people; he has convinced them well enough to earn their trust, hence his confidence in seeking a renewed mandate from them. That is leadership at its best.
