Osun Accord Says Hon Faleke Exposes Osun APC Rigging Plans

Osun State chapter of Accord has released credible reports of a closed door briefing by Hon James Faleke in which the lawmaker detailed plans to rig Saturday election, calling the development “the worst assault on democracy in recent history”

The Accord submitted that the federal lawmaker who has been criscrossing the state in the last few days met selected leaders of Osun APC at Osogbo on Wednesday evening and revealed the most daring rigging plans since the aborted second republic.

The Kogi lawmaker alleged to be at loggerheads with Marine Minister, Gboyega Oyetola over election campaign funds listed how the APC hoped to cripple the strongholds of the Accord through brute application of force.

Credible eyewitness accounts quoted Falake as presenting frightening analysis of the plot town by town namely the total blocking of Ijesa zone by all means in favour of the APC through application of force and arrest of Accord leaders.

For Ile Ife, the lawmaker allegedly noted the likelihood of little violence to reduce voters’ turn out but overwhelming electoral manipulation to reduce any margin in favour of the Accord.

Like Ijesa zone, the lawmaker in the presence of Hon Wole Oke equally reportedly said that Ikire will be blocked for APC while the party will battle Osogbo to take 60 percent of the votes in the capital city.

Faleke was also alleged to have worked out a plan to reduce voting outcome from Ede zone by 40 percent, promising his audience that the APC will then win Osun by a combination of sheer force, electoral manipulation and inducement of the populace.

Reacting to the reports, the Osun state Accord called the utterances of the Kogi lawmaker a power mongering push which ignores the fragility of our national democracy and which outrightly denies basic tenets of democracy as prescribed by the constitution.

If truly, Hon Faleke uttered those words and plans against democratic rights of Osun people, then we should question his love for Mr President who needs the affection of Osun people rather than demonisation of the presidency by those dropping the names of the President to perpetrate evil.

We had expected Hon Falake to work on how to unite the badly fractured APC. We had reasoned that he is in Osun to address the grievances of those 76 APC leaders who told the President the impossibility of winning Osun by the APC. Observers were eager to see how Falake will handle Mr Oyetola’s anger over what the minister sees as meddlesomeness by a lawmaker from Kogi.

Rather than pursue the execution of the presidential directive that all federal agencies should be non-partisan and allow Osun people to decide, Hon Faleke is junketting around Osun, plotting how to deny the people their rights to decide their leader.

While reminding Faleke that Osun state is the cradle of Yoruba people, the Accord warned against autocratic tactics and strategies in a rule governed democracy, tasking him and other election riggers to help the president to consolidate rather than weaken democracy.

The bad news for Mr Faleke is that the Osun people will resist the current plot to impose a leader against their will. Governor Ademola Adeleke is the choice of Osun people and they shall have the ballot to affirm that position on Saturday.
