Enough Is Enough: End the Reign Of Political Violence In Ijesa Land Now

The attention of the Accord leaders and the peace-loving people of Ijesa South has once again been drawn to the disturbing reports of violent attacks, intimidation, harassment, and suppression allegedly carried out against members and supporters of the Accord in parts of Ilesa East Local Government Area.

The incidents reported around Okesa, Iloro, and Anaye on June 12, 2026, if allowed to continue unchecked, pose a grave threat to democracy, public peace, and the fundamental rights of our people. No citizen should be attacked, threatened, or prevented from freely associating with any political party of his or her choice.

I therefore call on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, and all relevant security agencies to immediately investigate these incidents and, where sufficient evidence exists, arrest and prosecute all individuals connected with these acts of violence, including those whose names have repeatedly featured in reports from concerned citizens.

The era where political thuggery is tolerated must come to an end. The people of Ijesa land deserve peace, not fear; ballots, not bullets; campaigns, not chaos.

I am also compelled to call on prominent leaders of the APC in Ijesa South, including Hon. Sanya Ominrin, Hon. Timothy Owoeye, and other political stakeholders, to publicly condemn violence and prevail on their supporters to conduct themselves within the confines of the law. Leadership carries responsibility, and silence in the face of violence only emboldens criminal elements.

Let it be clearly stated that no individual, group, or political party has a monopoly of violence. However, our commitment remains firmly rooted in peace, democracy, and the rule of law. We do not seek conflict, but neither shall the people of Ijesaland surrender their constitutional rights to intimidation and fear.

The continuous attacks on innocent citizens are pushing our people to the edge. Security agencies must act swiftly and decisively so that frustrated citizens are not tempted to resort to self-help. The preservation of law and order is the primary responsibility of the state.

I also respectfully appeal to our revered paramount ruler, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, to deploy his moral authority, fatherly influence, and royal leadership to help restore peace and reassure our people during this difficult period. Ijesaland has always been known for honour, civility, and progress. We must not allow political desperation to destroy the peace our forefathers laboured to build.

No one should bring political war to our fatherland. No one should make violence a condition for political participation. No one should threaten the peace of Ijesa people because of personal ambition.

The forthcoming elections must be free, fair, peaceful, and credible. Every voter must be able to cast his or her vote without fear of intimidation, attack, or persecution.

The time has come for security agencies to act. The time has come for political leaders to speak. The time has come for justice to prevail.

Enough is Enough.

Signed:

Hon. Alaba Popoola
Accord Party Candidate
Ijesa South Federal Constituency 2027.
