What Oyebamiji Wished for Governor Adeleke Now Appears to Be Happening to Him

Politics in Osun State continues to unfold with remarkable twists as preparations for the forthcoming governorship election intensify. As the political atmosphere becomes more charged, the people of the state are once again witnessing how quickly the tides of politics can change, often in ways that surprise even the most confident political actors.
Not long ago, Bola Oyebamiji, the APC guber candidate boldly described the coming election as “facing a goalpost without a goalkeeper,” implying that defeating Governor Ademola Adeleke would be an easy task and perhaps even a walkover for him and his party. The statement was made with great confidence, based on the belief that several political obstacles had already been strategically placed in the path of the governor.
At the time, there were clear attempts by opposition forces to weaken the political structure of Governor Adeleke. These efforts reportedly included sponsoring internal divisions within the Accord Party, destabilizing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and pushing for actions through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that could undermine appearance of Governor Ademola Adeleke on the ballot.
However, recent developments within the All Progressives Congress (APC) are beginning to tell a different story. Internal disagreements, factional tensions, and emerging legal disputes involving key figures such as Iyiola Omisore and APC have exposed growing cracks within the opposition party.
What is becoming increasingly clear to the people of Osun State is that the crisis some political actors wished for Governor Adeleke is gradually finding its way back to their own camp. Instead of weakening the governor’s political standing, the internal wrangling within the APC now threatens to erode the party’s unity and electoral strength ahead of the election.
Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke continues to consolidate public support through governance that many citizens describe as people-centered and responsive. The growing confidence among supporters of the governor and the Accord Party reflects a belief that the political momentum in the state remains firmly on the side of progress and continuity.
Indeed, politics has a way of humbling those who underestimate their opponents. The election that was once described as a “goalpost without a goalkeeper” against Governor Adeleke is increasingly looking like a difficult contest for the APC and its candidate. As events continue to unfold, many observers now see a clear political lesson: the schemes designed to weaken others can sometimes return to test their architects.
