An 18-seater bus carrying passengers to the burial of Bayelsa State’s late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, was involved in a fatal accident along the Toru-Orua axis of the Sagbama–Ekeremor Road.

The crash, which occurred on a major route in the area, claimed the lives of more than 10 people, according to initial reports.

The victims were en route to pay their final respects to Senator Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away suddenly on December 11, 2025, at the age of 60 after collapsing in his office at the Government House in Yenagoa.

His burial is scheduled for today, January 30, 2026, in his hometown of Ofoni, Sagbama Local Government Area, following a series of funeral events, including a Day of Tributes attended by prominent figures such as former President Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Douye Diri, and former Governor Seriake Dickson.
