PDP Secretariat Dispute Deepens as Court Dismisses Turaki’s Case

A fresh twist has emerged in the ongoing legal tussle surrounding control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat, as a court has dismissed a case reportedly instituted by Turaki in connection with the matter.
During proceedings, the presiding judge ruled that the issues raised in the suit are already the subject of an appeal currently before the Court of Appeal. As a result, the court declined to delve into the substance of the case, noting that it would be inappropriate to make parallel pronouncements while the appellate court is seized of the dispute.
The judge subsequently adjourned the matter indefinitely, pending the outcome of the case at the Court of Appeal.
The dismissal does not necessarily bring a final resolution to the broader leadership and control dispute involving the PDP National Secretariat. Rather, it reflects a legal principle aimed at preventing conflicting judgments from courts of coordinate jurisdiction while a higher court reviews related issues.
By stepping back, the court effectively signaled that the appellate court’s decision will play a decisive role in shaping the next phase of the legal and political battle.
The PDP has been grappling with internal tensions and factional disagreements in recent times, with control of party structures becoming a major flashpoint. Legal battles over party leadership and authority have further deepened uncertainty within the opposition party.
Political observers say the Court of Appeal’s eventual ruling could have far-reaching consequences, not just for those directly involved in the case, but for the broader balance of power within the PDP.
Until then, the situation remains in legal limbo, with party stakeholders and supporters watching closely as the appellate process unfolds.
