Nigerian Soldiers Allowance Increased From N20,000 to N60,000 Amid Ongoing Fight Against !nsurgency
A new survey has revealed improved welfare for Nigerian troops, including a significant increase in their monthly operational allowance as they continue battling insurgents across the country.
According to findings by the News Agency of Nigeria, soldiers deployed in frontline operations now receive up to N60,000 monthly, a sharp rise from the previous N20,000.
Troops who spoke anonymously confirmed the improvement, noting better feeding arrangements and increased ration allowances, which have enhanced their overall well-being in combat zones.
One soldier said the difference is noticeable, adding that while the system is not perfect, conditions have improved compared to before.
Military sources also revealed that operational allowances are now paid more uniformly across ranks in combat areas, marking a shift from previous practices.
In addition, payment delays, which were once a major concern, have reduced, with allowances now being disbursed more consistently.
The Nigerian Army has also strengthened its troop rotation policy, ensuring soldiers spend no more than three years in frontline operations, with many rotated earlier depending on needs.
Officials say welfare flights introduced in 2023 have further improved troop movement, allowing safer and faster redeployment after operations.
Army spokesperson Appolonia Anele stated that the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, has prioritised troop welfare through various initiatives aimed at boosting morale and effectiveness.
Meanwhile, troops under Operation Hadin Kai recently repelled attacks in Borno State, neutralised insurgents, and rescued kidnapped victims, highlighting improved operational success.
Defence Chief Christopher Musa also stressed the importance of stronger cooperation among security agencies, noting that joint operations and intelligence sharing are key to tackling Nigeria’s complex security challenges.
Nigerian forces remain actively engaged in multiple operations, including the fight against Boko Haram in the North-East and other security threats across the country.
